STRUCTURAL CONSTRUCTION – CONSTRUCTION OF THE BASE

Once the plans have been agreed with the client and agreed with the relevant building authorities, the structural works can begin. Landscaping plays an important role in the start of construction, as it is a good idea to level the working area to ensure that work can be carried out quickly. After landscaping, the foundation can be accurately laid. In this process, it is very important to measure the levels and dimensions accurately so that the base body can be raised professionally. Then, before the concrete is poured, the elements of the plumbing system are put in place. The excavated foundation can then be filled with concrete of the right quality. There are three important requirements to be taken into account when laying the foundations:

• The foundation must be able to bear the full load of the building, i.e. it must be able to perform its load-bearing function properly.
• To prevent thermal bridges and mould growth, make sure that the foundation has adequate thermal insulation.
• Pay due attention to water resistance to prevent ground water from entering the building structure.
• Determine the type of foundation, taking into account the characteristics of the soil, on the basis of the surveyor’s and the designer’s opinions. The method most commonly used for detached houses is the flat foundation. In this case the foundation is laid close to the ground surface. In contrast, deep foundations are used to distribute the building’s loads by means of specially developed structural elements below the surface – pile foundations, well foundations, cabinet foundations, air-pressure foundations – after which the formwork is placed and filled with concrete, and the interior of the excavated foundation is filled with earth and the final concrete pour can begin.

• Again, this part of the process requires precision and accuracy in laying out the floor plan. The corner elements are placed first, followed by the construction of the intermediate walls. The walls are built up until the openings – doors and windows – are marked out, and then the bridging elements are put in place.  If you want quality brick walls, aim for the following three points:
  
• Use as many whole bricks as possible, avoid half bricks.
• Use as many whole bricks as possible and avoid half bricks.
• Make sure that the bricks and mortar have the same thermal insulation properties, otherwise thermal bridges will be formed.
• After the walls have been built up, the concrete can be laid to distribute and even out the weight from the roof.

• Once the structural construction is complete, the roof construction can begin. 
This stage of the process is very important, as the roof provides protection from the environment, protects the structural elements of the building and influences the lifetime of the building. When designing the roof, take into account:
